I am a ceramicist, working with porcelain, incorporating textile and precious metal elements. I make and sell screen printed porcelain vessels and contemporary porcelain jewellery.
My porcelain vessels are individually hand made by applying pattern directly to the raw clay surface using coloured clay and a silk screen. This unusual making technique is used to ensure every piece is a one-off.
I am inspired by old found items, I am particularly interested in the stories and history behind these things; the superstitions and meanings given to certain objects. This narrative informs the surface decoration of the vessels.
The porcelain jewellery pieces are cast from the original objects that inspire me, in porcelain and hand painted in precious metal lustres. My aim is to translate the symbolism of these objects into a new form. The jewellery pieces also adorn the vessels .
I set up my practise after completing my degree in 3D Design at MMU and a ceramic residency in Denmark at the International Ceramics Research Centre. I am currently based in my city centre studio in the heart of Manchester.
